The Chapeltown Global Village Market launched Saturday August 8th 2010 in Potternewton Park. In 2011 they havel be held every first Saturday of the month at the Reginald Centre on Chapeltown Road.
The idea for an outdoor community market in Chapeltown was put forward by local people during several public meetings and the Chapeltown Development Trust is pleased to have made it a reality.
Each market features food, crafts, goods, music and more that reflects the vibrant diverse communities of Chapeltown – communities that come from places such as the Caribbean, Europe, Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
Priority is given to local stallholders as the long-term agenda of the market development work is to encourage local people to set up or expand their own small businesses and to direct trade with the public. Benefits to the area also include improving the availability of good value local sourced products and produce, area rebranding, and improving visibility of trade in Chapeltown.
